Read the Bible in 2010

A number of people have expressed interest in being part of a virtual group who support and encourage one another in their common desire to read through the whole Bible in 2010. This blog site is a place where you can share insights, make observations and generally encourage one another to keep pressing on and immerse ourselves in God's Word. Please keep comments short and pithy, strengthening and affirming.

(Note from Duncan: I have pasted in an email from Jenny and some responses to it. They are not from me – I just posted them on the blog for others to see.)

HI Everyone

How’s it going? I must admit that I’m finding Leviticus less exciting than Genesis and Exodus.

Is anyone up to date?   Be honest!!

March readings now ready for down load – keep going and keep praying for everyone else to keep going too…

God Bless

Jenny

Thoughts on worship February 19, 2010

Filed under: Insights and Inspiration — Duncan @ 10:08 am

There seem to be a lot of ritualistic rules surrounding forgiveness and worship that appear to be irrelevant to 2010.  I offer my thoughts and wonder if others can add to them.

  • Corporate worship should be orderly, planned, individually prepared for, it’s holy (7:1) and led respectfully by the Priestly community.
  • We must offer worship to God continually.
  • The fire of worship must never go out (6:13).
  • We must take seriously the fact that Jesus Christ is our ultimate scrifice for our own sins/wrongdoings.
  • Worship/sacrifice is not the same for every occasion…we can all meet with God in our own way if our heart is right before Him.

The challenge to me is “do I come into God’s presence (daily individually or corporately in church or Home Group) with the wonder and awe He deserves or am I over familiar and too casual?  Do I really take into account my sinfulness and imperfection before God?”

It’s a joy to share reading the Bible in a Year daily with so many other friends connected to Christ Church.  So far I’ve managed to just about keep up – thank you for the challenge Jenny.  May we all be blessed by the richness and surprises of what we read, even if some of it appears to be unrelated to the culture and context in which we live.

Have others of you been amazed at the conncetions to be found between all the readings set for each day?

Dear Friends,
How’s it going?? I’m loving the way the readings can give a linked message. Today, the Proverbs warnings against the pitfalls of adultery are a direct example of the promise  in Exodus 15 v 26 that obedience to God brings health and wellbeing. And then Jesus says in Matthew that ‘many are called but few are chosen. This links to the Exodus story of the chosen people – and reminds us that God provides for His chosen ones. I’m sure that everyone reading this is a ‘chosen one’. God gave each of us the desire to read and be changed by His word this year.
Praying for you all,

Jenny
